Camp Leasing Manager – Glendale, CA

Successful applicants are required to work in person, year-round at Camp Bob Waldorf in Glendale, CA. Not a remote position. Overnight attendance and supervision on site is a requirement when rental groups are present. During Summer Camp Programming (June – August), this position supports the Camp Program Team while preparing for the upcoming rental season. Onsite living available. COVID-19 Vaccination Required.

AN OPPORTUNITY

The Camp Leasing Manager at Camp Bob Waldorf is integral in fulfilling the camp mission. At the core of our mission is making sure that all campers and groups are provided with the care that they need to have a fun, positive, and enriching experience while they are at camp.

The Camp Leasing Manager position stewards the leasing program year-round. General management of the weekend and mid-week program, which includes, but is not limited to the following; Focusing on marketing/promotions, guiding tours and sales, negotiating and writing contracts, running and overseeing high quality programming through camp offered activities, neighborhood relations, managing a team of supplemental camp hosts, and overseeing food service operations for groups.

Through utilizing the best practices of the camping and wellness industry the Camp Leasing Manager will help the groups, staff and their campers reach their fullest potential during their stay at camp.

Our residential Jewish and non-sectarian camp programs, weekend retreats, outdoor backpacking trips, college scholarship programs and mentoring activities provide over 1,200 underserved children each year with a safe, nurturing environment where they learn to be creative, responsible, and thoughtful individuals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Creatively market and promote Camp Bob Waldorf leasing program on our website, through social media, in person and via phone calls or referrals to maximize consistent occupancy during non-summer (September-May) weekends and weekdays.
  2. Collaborate with the Camp Director, JBBBSLA Leadership and Camp Committee to diversify leasing outreach, improve programming and maximize revenue.
  3. Facilitate tours year-round for prospective group leaders, provide input, suggestions and guidance on requests and program facilitation in accordance with group needs and camp facility limitations.
  4. Maintain and nurture relationships with group leaders and administrators through clear and frequent communication.
  5. Format and input specific group requirements including costs, deposits, programmatic needs, food service needs and insurance details into the existing CBW groups contract system.
  6. Monitor deposits, receipt of signed contracts, group minimum numbers, food service requests and facility set up needs prior to groups stay at camp.
  7. Manage and update annual leasing calendar including prioritizing Camp Retreats and Summer Programming annually. Regularly communicate with food service, camp program and facilities teams regarding changes to calendar and specifics related to groups.
  8. Welcome all groups to camp and facilitate an orientation to the camps rules and guidelines including, but not limited to, specifics on the camp environment, supervision, neighbor relations, noise regulations, food service, nighttime and emergency contacts, housekeeping services and any reporting facility issues.
  9. Live onsite and be present and available throughout the groups stay at camp. Be available for phone calls from group leaders 24 hours a day and able and willing to respond to all needs and emergencies as they arise.
  10. Maintain communication with the Camp’s Head Chef to provide food service requirements of the highest level. Monitor feedback related to food quality and quantity and communicate clearly with Head Chef on a weekly basis.
  11. Communicate regularly with Lead Facilities Technician to provide group’s set up needs such as conference rooms, sound systems, chair distribution, water and table placements and facility issues/repairs as they arise.
  12. Manage hosting staff team. Provide training, supervision and timekeeping management for weekend and weekday program staff. Manage and assign hosting staff during required kitchen shifts. Regularly monitor performance and provide feedback to all hosting staff.
  13. Create and maintain safety systems for all aspects of leasing group programming including Ropes Course/Climbing Wall, Archery, Swimming Pool and others.
  14. Provide groups with consistently high quality, safe programmatic requirements per leasing contract.
  15. Provide all group leaders with an opportunity to debrief and evaluate their stay and analyze comments and data monthly.
  16. Work with the Camp Director:
    • Communicate weekly regarding group schedules, needs, budget development and facility requirements.
    • Take the lead on high ropes and climbing wall training, maintenance and facilitation year-round.
  17. Work with the entire Camp and JBBBSLA Team:
    • Create and maintain a community where everyone feels physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually welcome and safe.
    • Work closely with other divisions of JBBBSLA (Mentoring, Development, College Access & Success) to communicate leasing groups who are connected with other JBBBSLA programs.
  18. Summer Camp season duties:
    • Work in a limited capacity as outlined by Camp Director to provide support where necessary for Camp Programming Team during busy summer camp season.
    • Facilitate tours, outreach, calendar management and contract development during summer season.
  19. Other duties as assigned.

ON A TEAM

The Camp Leasing Manager will work closely with all members of the camp department and will be supervised by the Camp Director. The Camp Leasing Manager will take the lead in the camp rental business year-round. The position will also interact with other members of JBBBSLA including staff members of the Development, Finance, College Access & Success, Mentoring Program and HR/Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in working with rental or leasing groups/events in a camp setting preferred.
  • 1-3 years of sales, hospitality, and/or marketing experience preferred.
  • Experience in creating, planning and implementing impactful events and or group programming.
  • 2-3 years of administrative or enrollment-based experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive energy, helpful attitude, well-developed interpersonal skills, open mind, and empathy.
  • Strong initiative and a willingness to go the extra mile for those that we serve.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary Range – $67,000 – $70,000 annually
  • Year-round, full-time, exempt Position
  • Position required to live onsite during overnight programs; housing and meals provided
  • Camp Bob Waldorf is in Glendale, CA. Position will be based out of Camp office year-round.
